"Stumptown

So it turns out despite quite ambitious resolve, I was not a very frequent blogger in 2012. My friends know me as a very committed blog creator, yet a very infrequent blog poster. This year, though, I have the support of even more friends, and a determination to truly share my explorations for coffee, and many other great things. The new year wouldn’t be special without yet another new blog. I will be a featured blogger on a site with two friends, but for the time being I will continue sharing my voyage de coffee here. This was probably my 30th cappuccino on a coup de force of Seattle with my brother in March of 2012. We visited one of Portland’s most enjoyed coffeeshops, Stumptown Coffee Roasters, in Seattle just before heading south for a few days in Oregon. Consider it an odd way to leave Seattle, but a great way to get ourselves into the Portlandia mindset. There was plenty of reclaimed wood, overly complex machines/methods to brew coffee and people wearing vintage (buzz word meaning “old”) jeans to make any hipster happy. The coffee was divine and as you can see, quite picturesque. It is safe to say that I would not waste time before visiting Stumptown in LA, that is whenever it finally opens. I know better than to make promises for more posts this year, but the forecast is looking good. That’s all I’m going to say.

Los Angeles was told to plan for a rainy and cold Sunday- it ended up being sunny and 65. The winters are tough in Southern California. I met a fellow blogging friend today for breakfast and a walk to the farmer’s market in Atwater Village. It turns out Atwater Village is the place to be if you are a coffee connoisseur as there are many coffee shops to pick from. Cafecito Organico is a LA based roaster that has pop-up shops at a few farmer’s markets around the city. They also have two brick and mortar locations. Today I visited their cafe on the edge of Silverlake as I was looking for a place to read the newspaper and catch up on a few old issues of Los Angeles magazine, though I spent lot of my time on the phone teaching my mother how to delete files on her computer. They have a quiet patio and chairs next to tree stumps if you are looking for a spot in the sun. The coffee was good and the space conducive to a relaxing afternoon. Paired with unlimited street parking, it was a good decision. Enjoy.

My friends tell me that I’m fun. I don’t disagree with them, I’m just not convinced that they aren’t all crazy. I mean, they are friends with me after all. This might be the fourth blog I’ve started since blogging became cool so there is a good chance it will see a similar fate, but you never know, it just may be my julie and julia.

I like coffee, a lot. And for 2012 I decided that I would explore the many coffee shops in LA and beyond. I certainly won’t make it to all of the good ones, but I feel pretty confident that this will be a fun adventure for the year. The blog isn’t going to be the Yelp for coffee, because no one trusts Yelp. It will be a digital diary of my coffee adventures, and let’s be honest, a trip to a pie shop or two might make it in here too. They do serve coffee after all.

I hope you enjoy. JAF
